Red-winged Blackbirds!

These energetic birds are the real harbingers of spring, in my opinion. Males show up in March to start claiming territory with their trademark trilling calls. Once nesting season begins, they become nature’s biggest jerks, chasing bigger birds (sometimes BIGGER birds) from their nests. Females, which have a more camouflaged coloration, are great hunters and foragers. RWBs are among the first birds to arrive in the spring and among the last to depart in the fall.
